Looking at the PlayStation 3, it is hard to believe that there was once a time when all over the internet, lies and false accusations were being circulated about Sony’s heavyweight. If half of the false rumors and fabrications were true, the PlayStation 3 wouldn’t have sold an eighth as many units. Now, it’s understood that many new systems undergo some sort of adversity. But it was as if the PS3 had a giant bull’s eye printed on its back. Hundreds of false rumors and lies were targeted towards Sony on the topic of its newest gaming console, each more ludicrous than the last.
The list of false accusations goes on and on. If we were to point each and every one out, you’d still be reading this tomorrow morning. Instead, we'll talk about a few key examples that stand out from the others. These include accusations about limitations placed on the system by Sony. Even some adult-film directors and producers have been quoted as accusing Sony of pressuring others not to manufacture Blu-ray discs with adult content; in short, Sony was accused of attempting to prevent porn on Blu-ray, which we refuted here and provided evidence to the contrary.
Aside from porn, as much as some of us may enjoy it, one of the more widely spread claims was one that stated that Sony didn’t want PS3 owners to be able to play their games on more than one system. For example this would have meant that a player wouldn’t be able to take a game over to a friend’s house if he already played it on his own PlayStation 3. Or another and more alarming example, the PS3 would not be able to play used games.
This speculation arose after it was discovered that Sony had secured a patent for a disk technology, the purpose of which was to prevent the use of pirated or used software. But this did not mean the disk technology would actually be used in the PS3, as was proven upon the system’s release.
On the subject of adult content on Blu-ray, Sony's long-time policy of not manufacturing videocassettes or DVDs containing adult content is primarily the reason behind the accusations of adult-film producers and directors alike. However Sony denied these claims and even the Blu-ray disc Association quickly reacted to the falsity, stating that there is no ban against adult movie content. If, even after this there was still any doubt, it was swiftly put to rest with the arrival of the PS3.
Today, the PlayStation 3 is an excellent choice for any gamer. Its many capabilities help it to stand out from the competition. Blu-ray, top quality video games, web browsing, remote play, controllers featuring Bluetooth technology at its best, as well as a system that runs both quietly and smoothly, to name a few. Every system has its own good points, and all gamers are entitled to their own opinions. However the PS3, we believe, is the cream of the crop.
