:SPG Writer Review:
The Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) has impacted and in it's own way changed the face of Sony Computer Entertainment America's (SCEA) Video Game Console Department in many ways since it's original debut in March of 2005. In a basic sense, the PSP is the "On The Go PlayStation" that not only holds up to Sony Console Standards with surprising Specifications but also holds to their reputation as an amazingly intricate and fun system to own. This system features a 4.3 Inch, 16:9 Wide Screen display that keeps the system small enough to fit in the pocket but unlike some of it's competitors has a large enough screen to easily view, read and watch any compatible work with the system on. While lightweight and compact, the PSP also has quite a few features that are new to the Portable Game Console Market. These features include an IEEE 802.11b Wi-Fi Card that is both easy to understand as well as use efficiently. The new Driver for Universal Media Discs (UMDs) is formatted for not only Video Game play but is also compatible with UMD Movies that have also been released by Sony. It is announced and confirmed on the
Playstation Portable Website that there are over 350 UMD Games as well as over 460 UMD Movies, TV Programs and Music Videos currently in production and circulation worldwide with even more to come all through the years to come.
The internal software given with this system are also very pleasing overall, having Firmware updatability and many more options to keep it at the top of the market for years to come. The built in IEEE 802.11b (Wi-Fi) Card isn't the only connectivity added into the PSP as it comes standard with a built in USB 2.0 (Mini-B) Port and a USB 2.0 Cable with it in the box that allows you to connect your PSP straight into your Home PC. These connectivity options give the user many chances to update and personalize their system to their own liking. These options include Custom Themes as well as Photo, Music and Video Tabs that allow the uploading of personal files onto the system to view and listen to as well. The PSP also takes it's Wi-Fi Connectivity to a level that Portable Consoles have not done by adding not only an Internet Browser but RSS Channels, Remote Play and the LocationFree™ Player.. The Internet Browser is one of the most impressive features in the system, it being unlike those found on most Mobile Phones and other Portable Game Consoles. This Browser allows access to the World Wide Web just like it were being accessed on a Home PC or Laptop Computer. The PSP also features the ability to enable WMA Playback and Flash Player to use with the system. The setup and layout of this system are also remarkably well done, allowing easy viewing and use of all programs and applications featured.
Whether a Veteran Gamer or new to the video game console experience, the Sony PSP is a recommended system for anyone. With it's sturdy design, easy setup and layout and access to many features and accessories, the PlayStation Portable is one of the most user friendly Portable Gaming Consoles on the market today. With it's high level of customization and access to new content and content updates, the PSP will live on with a sturdy foothold in the history of Video Gaming.
